Run your first validation
Goal
You'll walk the whole workflow once: connect a data source, pick a table, add a rule, bundle it into a validation, run it, and put it on a schedule. End state: a green run in Results and a validation that keeps itself up to date.
Prereqs
- A running Measured Cloud you can sign in to — see the Quickstart or Self-host.
- A database with at least one table you can read, and a user for Measured Cloud with
SELECTon it. A read-only role is best. - The editor role or higher in your workspace.
Steps
-
Connect a data source. Go to Data Assets → Add source. Pick the type (Postgres, Snowflake, BigQuery, …), fill in the connection form, and click Test connection — you should see a green check with the round-trip time. Save. (Database behind a firewall? Use the Privacy Agent instead.)
-
Add a table. Once the source connects, the same window moves on to step 2, Add tables. Measured Cloud lists every table and view it can see. Tick the one you want and click Add N tables. It appears on the Data Assets page under its source. (Later, click the source's name on Data Assets to open its Manage source window and add more.)
-
Profile it. Click the asset's row to open it, then Profile. In a few seconds Table Health fills in with row counts, null rates, and distinct counts per column — and the AI summary describes the table.
-
Add a rule. On the asset's Rules card, under Add a rule, click Add rule and pick a type. For a first run, Row count between with
min = 1andmax = 10000000is a safe choice. Save the row. Add a couple more — Not null on a key column is a good second. (More on rules.) -
Create a validation. Go to Validations → New validation, name it (
My first validation), select your asset, and click Create. -
Run it. On the validation's page, click ▶ Run. The Execution runs card shows the run filling in; when it finishes, click it for the per-rule breakdown.
-
Schedule it. On the same page, Schedule → Add schedule, choose Daily at a time (say 06:00), and Save. It runs in your organization's schedule timezone, which the form shows; an admin sets it in Settings → Scheduling.
Verify
- Results shows a passing run for your validation, and the validation's Failures card shows the run as a short teal mark (no rules failed).
- Validations → Schedule shows tomorrow's run marked Scheduled.
